My name is Dave, and I have a drinking problem.

PNG Bro-down Episode 27 – Rogues Do It From Behind

It’s that time of the week again, PNG fans!  It’s the Pixels and Grids Bro-down!  On this week’s cast, we talk about all the fun we had at Gen Con and all the latest games we’ve been playing.  We talk about Mass Effect, Batman: Arkham Asylum, CA$H and GUN$, Halo Wars, racist little homophobes, Shadow Complex, Dragon Age: Origins, You Robot, Warhammer: Chaos in the Old World, God of War Dante’s Inferno, the PS3 Slim, Xbox 360 failure rates (hint: Epic Fail), and how the most damage is always done from behind.  Oh, and Dave shows up filled with more PBR than is strictly advisable.  Hope you all enjoy it as much as we did making it!  And as always, tell a friend!

Tune in next week; same Bro-down time, same Bro-down channel.

Say Hello to Hello Kitty Online

Hello Kitty Online - where a million unreasonably cute things are but a click away.

Before we get started here, perhaps we need to take a little poll to see if this is something you want to continue reading.

Are you, or someone you know:

1) A person who is less than thirteen years old.
2) A person who loves small, cute, fluffy things.
3) A person who is down with some wicked otaku business.
4) This person.

If you answered ‘Yes’ to any of the questions above, follow me after the break!

PNG Bro-down Episode 24 – Reach Down and Touch the Future

PNG Bro-down Episode 24 – Reach Down and Touch the Future

It’s that time again, PNG fans – the Pixels & Grids Bro-down has landed!  On this week’s episode we talk Battlefield 1943; debate the differences between Street Fighter IV and Soul Calibur IV; ask ourselves if we ain’t afraid of no ghosts; answer the Call of Juarez – and get Bound in Blood; debate the tactical advantages of riding a horse through a glass wall or three; rap about some upcoming releases such as Scribblenauts, Borderlands, and Need for Speed Nitro; hug it out and reminisce about Time Cop; hold a logical and researched discussion of the ramifications of time traveling sexual encounters; cover the upcoming Castlevania and World of Warcraft shit piles feature films; reveal this year’s updates to the Xbox dashboard and Rock Band; and ice the whole cake off with date rape.  Which you shouldn’t do.  Ever.  And don’t even think about mentioning James’ Xbox.

Enjoy!

T.G.I.F. (This Game Is Frustrating.. but also great)

Don't play near your children - you might accidentally uppercut them in the face.

God damned Ikaruga.

Oh, boy is this game great.  This week’s Xbox Live Arcade Deal-of-the-Week brings Treasure’s legendary shooter down to a very reasonable 400 Microsoft Points – or just five bucks.  Before I go into why purchasing this game is a good idea, let me give you a stern warning:

Ikaruga is so difficult, that playing it might cause any of the following side effects:  Bloody urine, Migraine Headache, Divorce,  Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder,  Shingles,  Explosive Diarrhea,  Aneurism, Catatonia, and Spontaneous Combustion.  It is also possible that playing Ikaruga may contribute to feelings of depression and suicide.  Do not play Ikaruga if you are pregnant, or are planning on becoming pregnant, or if you value your self-esteem.  Talk to your doctor before playing Ikaruga.

Now, taking the above warning into account, Ikaruga really is a game that’s worth checking out – if, and only if, you are the type of gamer who enjoys pushing through a frustrating experience to master a craft.  In this case, the craft of shooting the shit out of a lot of enemy fighters. Thanks to the dual polarity system that Treasure has built into this masterpiece, Ikaruga really stands out from its shmup brethren as both a unique and challenging experience that is really unmatched.  For the price of a greasy value meal, you can get your hands on one of the most legendary games ever created – but only this weekend.  So what are you waiting for?  Pick up the full game now, or at least check out the trial game.

Gameplay video after the break.  Have a great weekend!

PNG Bro-down Episode 23 – Fatal Furry Edition

Where mah nuts at?

PNG Bro-down Episode 23 – Fatal Furry Edition

It’s time for another episode of the Pixels and Grids Bro-down – the gaming podcast so good that it could only be improved by the inclusion of free night vision goggles! This week we discuss BlazBlue, Battlefield 1943, Street Fighter IV and the virtues of fight sticks, Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited, the Universal Fighting System card game, Cold War: CIA vs. KGB, matchmaking (and why everyone else should just be doing what Halo 3 does), EA and the UFC’s battle of words, and the games that won’t be getting caught up in the holiday shuffle.  Oh and furries.  Scary, scary furries.  Enjoy, and don’t forget to watch your back!

If only there were more middle-aged women in tents.

Times are changing around here.    It’s the new millenium, and women can do anything they want to – including join the PNG Bro-down!  The usual gang is joined by special guest Jessica Abramovich this week, and we celebrate Dave’s birthday right – with pure grain alcohol.  We chat about Battlefield 1943, Metal Gear, Street Fighter IV, Worms Armageddon, Point Lookout, The Summer of Arcade, Neotokyo, and other random bullshittery. So wax up that curly mustache (you so Pringles, baby), and join in the fun!

PNG Review: Fallout 3 – Point Lookout

"You are not welcome in this place.."

Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
MSRP: 800 Microsoft Points ($10)

Grade: A

Late last month, Bethesda whipped up another juicy dish of DLC for the feast that is Fallout 3.  This latest adventure, Point Lookout, is a little bit different from some of the other DLC packs, but no less enjoyable – nor any less worth the price of entry.  Follow me, after the break, into the strange and dangerous swamps of Point Lookout; and find out why you might just want to dust off that old disc, and journey back into the Wasteland once again.

PNG Bro-down Episode 20 – The Activision Mafia

They're making an offer you totally can refuse... unless you're Sony.

PNG Bro-down Episode 20 – The Activision Mafia

It’s that time again, PNG Fans!  Time for you weekly dose of extreme Bro-downocity!™  On this week’s PNG Bro-down, it’s a family affair with talks of Fable II, Halo, Prototype, Academy Games’ Conflict of Heroes, Origins gaming convention, moderately racist football games, and Activision’s offer which Sony really can’t refuse.  We hope everyone has as good a time as we did, and also hope that no one ends up with the decapitated head of a horse in their bed.  And don’t miss our guest appearance by none other than Smeagol himself!  Happy weekend!

PNG Review: Fallout 3 – Broken Steel

That steel don't be so broken, dog.

Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
MSRP: 800 Microsoft Points ($10)

Grade: A+

When it comes to DLC, one of the most controversial topics amongst the gaming community these days is price.  In these tough economic times, most gamers are working with a limited budget; and in this age of developers nickel-and-diming consumers left and right for game add-ons, it is sometimes difficult to determine which companies are giving gamers a good value for their money, and which are offering up a raw deal.  Having completed the third DLC pack for Bethesda Game Studios’ Fallout 3, Broken Steel, I can assure you that as far as gaming value goes, Bethesda is doing it so right.
